Job Summary
Established in 1968, Dearcroft is Oakville’s original Montessori school and the first in our community to offer a comprehensive Junior High (Grade 7/8) program since 1999. Now operating for 50 years, we offer a full toddler (18 months) to Grade 8 program. Dearcroft is a fully accredited charter member of CCMA (Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators) and O.I.S. (Oakville Independent Schools). Dearcroft Montessori School’s mission is to provide our students with the opportunity to develop and nurture their individual academic and social strengths in a safe and motivational learning environment. Dearcroft Montessori school is looking for an experienced, organized, and responsible person to join our community as a Casa Teacher.

Experience and Qualifications:
The successful candidate must demonstrate experience:

Working with children (aged 2.5 years through to 6+ yrs old)

Experience teaching in French is a strong asset

Maintain and establish appropriate guidelines for behaviour

Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, safety and well-being of children

Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
Requirements:

observing, guiding, and providing tailored support to each child, based on the Montessori

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities of Position:
Job Description
As a Planted Seed Montessori Teacher, your position will mostly focus on teaching students but
could also include marketing, communicating with families, and other administrative work
(based on your comfort and capabilities). Your main tasks and responsibilities are outlined
below and any major changes will be discussed with you and may result in additional contracts.
The position will include the following tasks:
● Teaching a Montessori and Outdoor learning curriculum to around 16 students in Grades 1
to 6
● Prepare, teach, and assess engaging, safe, and educational programming that follows
Montessori principles and outdoor education
● Adherence to Planted Seed Montessori policies at all times and maintain an inclusive and
safe space for youth, community members, and co-workers

● Supervising the students at all times or assigning a trusted adult to supervise. This excludes
supervision times that have another staff or volunteer dedicated to being the lead
supervisor
● Act as a mentor for the students and ensure that they are learning and enjoying their time
● Preparing materials and the learning spaces for lessons
● Care for students emotionally, physically, and intellectually
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience
• Lower and Upper elementary Montessori teacher (MACTE certified)
• Outdoor experience or willingness to teach a half day outside
• Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check no more than 2 years old
• First Aid and CPR certification
• French and music training an asset
• OCT applicants should be willing to learn Montessori pedagogy (if not already familiar
with it)
• Understanding of IEPs and ability to write them
• Some experience working with Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists and Speech
Language Therapists
• Some experience supporting children with additional needs (FASD, ADHD, etc)
• The ability to work respectfully with others
• The ability to access transportation to and from the work site
• The ability to respond/move quickly in cases of emergencies
